From the growing family to the city-weary professional to the active retiree, people come to central Oregon for its sunny climate, ample outdoor recreation, wilderness vistas and perhaps most important, quality of life. So many people have discovered the region's attractive lifestyle, in fact, that Deschutes County is the fastest growing county in the state and in the top 3% for growth in the country. By the year 2010, the population is estimated to reach 166,572 - a 14% increase from today. This rapid growth means an increased demand on the region's water supply, which in turn could threaten the health of the rivers we love. The DRC is actively working on ways to manage our water supply in a way that supports growing communities and improves our rivers at the same time. We are helping promote a healthy river, healthy ecosystem, and a healthy community throughout the Deschutes Basin.
