Irrigation in the Cascades
Most of the surface and ground-water in the Deschutes Basin originated as snow in the eastern Cascade Mountains.  Irrigated agriculture has increased in effeciency but still remains the primary water user in the Deschutes Basin.  Irrigaiton districts have proactively worked to reduce their water use while meeting the needs of their patrons.
