Our Water Conservation Program restores streamflow by increasing irrigation efficiency. When water users divert water from the river, about half of the water seeps into the ground under the canal. In some cases, irrigators can divert less water by changing where they get their water or how they apply it to a field.
We conserve water by piping and lining irrigation canals and by increasing on-farm water use efficiency. Our projects allow irrigators to divert less water while still meeting their needs, leaving more water in the river under the State's Conserved Water Program.
