Water Leasing
Our Leasing Program restores streamflow through yearly water leases.  It is a flexible program that benefits water rights holders.  As a result, it has protected more streamflow than any other program in the Columbia River Basin.

We lease water rights from water users for one to five years.   We pay water users for each acre of water leased and they temporarily leave their water in the river.  State law protects the water instream as a beneficial use.  This option helps irrigators who are temporarily not irrigating their land to keep their water right.

Instream leasing protects water rights, provides economic benefits, and helps to restore the Deschutes River and its tributaries.  Please
contact us if you are interested in leasing your water right instream.
