Noteworthy Funders Making River Restoration a Priority
Bend, Oregon – A number of funders are taking notice of the impressive results produced by the Deschutes River Conservancy and have decide to fully invest in the mission of the organization. The DRC recently received a significant foundation grant, corporation grant, and corporate donation – from Meyer Memorial Trust, TransCanada, and Portland General Electric, respectively. Meyer Memorial Trust awarded the DRC $200,000 to be distributed over a three year period to increase the organization’s capacity to build alliances and partnerships, and to provide outreach support for the streamflow and habitat restoration program. TransCanada awarded the DRC $36,000 to be distributed over a three year period in partnership funding for the DRC’s Ten Year Anniversary Campaign and Base-broadening Initiative. Portland General Electric recently made a $5,000 corporate donation to the DRC to support the work of the organization.
The DRC is recognized as a leader in river restoration and is being acknowledged on both a regional and national level. This past spring, the DRC received the Department of Interior’s Conservation Award and also the State of Oregon’s Water Resources Department Conservation and Stewardship Award. The organization has been successful in creating and implementing innovative water management techniques in the Deschutes Basin that benefit all the citizens and wildlife of this region. Since it’s inception in 1996, the DRC has been on the cutting edge and triumphant in bringing together a vast array of stakeholders, public and private entities, to restore and preserve the health of our watershed. The DRC is a 501(c)3 dedicated to restoring streamflow and improving water quality in the Deschutes Basin.
