River organization to receive funding

The Deschutes River Conservancy has signed a contract with the Bureau of Reclamation to receive more than $3.6 million in federal stimulus funds over 24 months, according to the Bend-based organization.

The money will help pay to install pipes that will replace portions of irrigation canals managed by the Three Sisters Irrigation District, the Central Oregon Irrigation District and the Crook County Improvement District. Funds will also help pay for water acquisitions for the Deschutes Water Alliance Bank, the release stated, and will not only create jobs but conserve water, allowing more of it to flow in the Deschutes River and Whychus Creek.
