Fly-fishing trips to be auctioned

Published: April 24. 2011 4:00AM PST

The Deschutes River Conservancy at its upcoming fundraiser will auction off fly-fishing trips for a 40-mile section of the Deschutes River on Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs property that is normally off-limits.

The Tribes, which helped found the conservancy in 1996, granted the organization special access to the sacred stretch of water to help support the organization. The trips will launch Sept. 17.

These trips and other items will be auctioned off May 6 at the organization’s Tight Lines Auction and BBQ Dinner at Aspen Hall in Bend’s Shevlin Park.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost $50 for individuals or $500 per table.

Brian O’Keefe of Catch Magazine will be the featured speaker.

Proxy bids are allowed in the auction, although bidders must call to register. Bidders may view merchandise and trips in advance on the Deschutes River Conservancy’s website.

The Deschutes River Conservancy is a nonprofit organization that works to improve streamflow and water quality in the basin.
