3RD ANNUAL FLY FISHING FILM TOUR HITS THE ROAD

Live event, short-film extravaganza makes splash for film fans and anglers of all abilities

(Boulder, CO) – The Drake magazine has just released its schedule of locations where the greatest collection of this year’s fly fishing films will be shown. Featuring the best filmmakers in the industry, the Fly Fishing Film Tour will make stops in over 50 cities between mid-February and mid-April.

The Fly Fishing Film Tour includes short films from Felt Soul Media, Beattie Outdoor Productions, Confluence Films, Rollcast Productions, World Angling, Skinny Fist Productions, and more. This year’s lineup of films offers a truly global experience, showcasing footage shot in Papua New Guinea, Russia, New Zealand, Belize, India, as well as domestic waters from California and Colorado to Southern Louisiana and the Florida Keys.

Each film has a very unique flavor and message and while all of them showcase incredible cinematography, each has their own blend of hilarious commentary, mesmerizing storytelling, and some of the largest and most impressive fish ever caught. But the common thread that permeates all of these films is the desire to showcase, support and spread the sport we love. The Fly Fishing Film Tour is an opportunity for fans and their friends to come together and celebrate their passion, support local and national conservation groups, check out exotic or well-known locations, swap stories, and generally just get stoked for the upcoming fly fishing season.

“The main focus of this tour,” says Tom Bie, editor of The Drake magazine, “is to showcase the talent of these filmmakers, raise some money for various conservation groups, and provide fly fishers—or those interested in becoming fly fishers—an evening of entertainment at a time when many rivers in the country are still closed. It may also be the only legitimate chance all winter for thousands of lonely fly tyers to actually get a date.”

The tour kicks-off February 12th in Colorado Springs, CO, and while most cities and dates are set, local organizations can still host their own event if the tour doesn’t pass through their town. “Hosting a show in your hometown is a great way to raise some funds for a local conservation group,” added Bie. “It’s pretty hard to actually go fishing on a frozen February week night anyway, so you might as well do the next best thing.”

The Drake magazine is a grassroots journal for fly fishing enthusiasts. It was founded in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in the summer of 1998 on the principal that too much contemporary outdoor writing gives away all the answers to people who never learned what the questions were. Today it includes emerging voices alongside veteran writers. The Drake magazine is published three times per year. It is not an instructional publication—it is for your reading and viewing enjoyment.
