A construction project improving trails and connectivity in downtown Bend’s Drake Park should be completed by the end of June, said Brian Hudspeth, development manager for the Bend Park & Recreation District.

Construction has been in its second phase for several months now, and the current focus is completing two boardwalks along the Deschutes River.

“It’s moving along and on schedule,” said Hudspeth.

Along with finishing the boardwalks, work on the paving, trail connection and landscaping still has to be completed.

The $8.3 million trail project aims to improve the banks of the Deschutes River and the footpaths along the water.

The trail through the park is also being extended to reach Pacific Park on the north side of Newport Avenue. Some grading changes are being made along the path to help the project meet accessibility requirements.
