The Deschutes River Conservancy received a $20,000 grant from the North Rim Deschutes River Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, which the nonprofit group said would be used to pursue its mission of restoring stream flows and improving water quality in the Deschutes River.
The Deschutes River Conservancy works with irrigation districts and other partners to allow more water, which has historically been diverted through irrigation canals, to remain in-stream in the Deschutes River Basin. The group’s work has created a fivefold increase in water flow during hot summer months.
The North Rim fund was created through the donation of a percentage of all North Rim home site sales. North Rim is a neighborhood at the northern tip of Awbrey Butte, developed by Brooks Resources. The fund has collected nearly $800,000 since its inception in 2004. It’s managed by individuals from the North Rim Homeowners Association.
