Basin welcomes millions for infrastructure improvements to put water instream

Senator Merkley has led efforts to secure millions for a federal funding program which will allow irrigation districts to make long-needed infrastructure upgrades that will ultimately benefit local rivers and streams.

Basin partners met today at Three Sisters Irrigation District to celebrate the strong partnerships that have culminated in irrigation improvements that restore water to our rivers and generate renewable energy. Senate Merkley, a key supporter of the collaborative efforts in the Deschutes Basin, cut ribbons on TSID’s new renewable in-conduit hydropower plant and a section of Tumalo Irrigation District’s pipe that will be installed with the support of funding from the Natural Resources Conservation Service. We look forward to working with the irrigation districts and other partners to accelerate these restoration efforts in the basin.
