While a lot of our work is in front of a computer and in long collaborative meetings, DRC staffers love to get out in the community to help inform about water issues, challenges facing the river, and conservation opportunities.
Here’s what we’ve been up to lately.
Deschutes Board of County Commissioners
January 31: Lisa Seales, DRC’s Program Manager, and Scott Aycock, COIC’s Community and Economic Development Director, updated the Deschutes Board of County Commissioners on the work of the Deschutes Basin Water Collaborative (DBWC). We appreciate the continued participation in and support of DBWC!
Central Oregon Fly Fishers
January 19: Kate Fitzpatrick, DRC’s Executive Director, was invited to present to the Central Oregon Flyfishers to talk about how water is managed in the Deschutes Basin and efforts to restore streamflow and water quality. Central Oregon Flyfishers is a nonprofit dedicated to broadening the public’s knowledge and understanding of Oregon’s aquatic resources. Close partners of the DRC, they are a great group of thoughtful engaged members who care deeply about the rivers they fish.
Jefferson County Farm Fair
February 2 & 3: DRC Staffers hosted a booth at the Jefferson County Farm Fair to share news about the Water Bank Pilot Project, meet with irrigation partners, and get the latest news in water projections. With a full agenda of all things growing and water, the in-person event at the Jefferson County Fair Grounds was a time to reconnect with stakeholders we haven’t been able to see in person for a while. Central Oregon Girl Scouts
February 10: Marisa Hossick, DRC’s Communications Director, presented to an engaged group of Girl Scouts who are doing a month-long study of the importance of water. Marisa spoke to the group about the history of the basin (spanning back to before “westward expansion”), the importance of water in the high desert, and how to conserve it for the future.
