Permanent Water Rights Transfers

The DRC acquires and transfers water rights for permanent instream use. These transfers support streamflow restoration and can provide mitigation credits to offset for municipal groundwater uses.

The DRC has used grants to help purchase over 565 acres of water rights and has facilitated the transfer of an additional 1,081 acres—totaling 1,646 acres. These transfers have protected 29.5 cfs (9,317 acre-feet) of instream flow. Partners have secured an additional 41.5 cfs for mitigation credits. The DRC focuses water acquisition on urbanizing lands near Bend and Redmond to meet regional growth needs while protecting river health.
